While the purpose of the content is intended to be as flamboyantly against the morals of the society the writer was a part of, the book is strikingly beautiful. Many of the actions required for the spells might as well be straight out of a horror novel for example: going to a graveyard as an act of trying to speak with the dead or boiling a cat alive to go invisible.

The second book is composed of listing of other spirits, pacts, and other spells ( Joseph H Peterson has the full table of contents available-link below). Some things within this first book struck me as bizarre and somewhat funny: on page eight, to not be harmed by the spirits you’re summoning, wrap up gold or silver coins in paper and throw them at the spirit (I doubt that will help, but go for it) on page 14, when a spirit acknowledges it knows where treasure is, you are to follow it alone to the treasure (yeah, no) and on page 15, the entryway to the treasure may be guarded by what looks like a large dog with a bright collar, but, twist, it’s a gnome (yes, really, a gnome). The first book goes over how to summon Lucifuge Rofocale or Lucifer to find treasure.

Like most grimoires, this book reads like a vague and yet overly meticulous manual for summoning spirts-in this case, of the malicious kind.
