With this in mind, Tesco Director of Plant Based Innovation Derek Sarno has unveiled his top tips and recipes for the perfect Plantsgiving spread. Additionally, many are switching tradition up this Thanksgiving with a third (28%) serving plant based dishes, and 13% serving only plant based dishes. When it comes to the British take on a Thanksgiving spread, whilst roast turkey still tops the list when it comes to mains (32%), almost a quarter (22%) will be serving it with British favourites such as Yorkshire pudding and pigs in blankets. Other UK areas popular for Thanksgiving celebrations include Belfast (24%) and Birmingham (19%). With many US residents living in the capital, celebrations will be led by Londoners, with a third (33%) of the city throwing Thanksgiving spreads.
This drops to just one in ten (11%) amongst 45-54-year-olds and 7% amongst those age 55-64. The US holiday is becoming increasingly popular amongst younger generations across the UK, with Gen Z and millennials leading the way in celebrations – 39% of 18-24-year-olds, 27% of 25-34-year-olds and 22% of 35-44-year-olds will celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Of those celebrating, over half of which (55%) have no US connections, in fact only 10% are actually American, while the remainder have American heritage (12%), or will be celebrating with an American partner or friends (23%). The nation has officially adopted Thanksgiving, with new data from Tesco revealing that 13 million UK adults will celebrate the traditional US holiday on November 25.
